PRINTABLE Whole Self Activity for Self-Esteem
🌈 Whole Self Activity Printable
A gentle, visual way to help children build healthy self-esteem
The Whole Self Activity helps children understand that they are made up of many different parts - not just their strengths, not just their struggles, and not just their hardest moments.
Instead of focusing on “being good” or “being amazing”, this activity helps children build a balanced, realistic, and compassionate sense of who they are.
💛 Why This Matters
Healthy self-esteem isn’t about constant positivity.
It’s about helping children understand and accept themselves as whole, complex, growing humans.
This activity supports children to:
• Recognise their strengths
• Understand parts of themselves they find harder
• See that no single trait defines them
• Build self-awareness and emotional literacy
• Develop resilience and self-acceptance
For example, a child can begin to understand:
“I feel shy sometimes — but that’s only one part of me.”
“I’m really creative — and that’s a big part of me.”
🧠 Therapy-Informed Approach
This activity is inspired by approaches used in child psychotherapy to help children move away from fixed identity beliefs like:
❌ “I am an angry child”
❌ “I am bad at things”
And toward flexible, compassionate self-understanding like:
✔ “I feel angry sometimes, but that isn’t all of who I am.”
✔ “I find some things hard, and I’m still learning.”
✂️ How The Activity Works
Children choose different parts of who they are (for example: creative, sporty, thoughtful, shy, brave).
They assign each part a colour using the colour key.
They then fill the body template using pencils, pens, or clay:
• Larger areas = parts that feel strong or show up often
• Smaller areas = parts that are there, but not all the time
This creates a powerful visual reminder that we are all made up of many different elements.

Hi, I’m Kim, a mum, maker, and big believer in the power of mindfulness for both kids and grown-ups. I started Craftly because, like so many parents, I was feeling overwhelmed and unsure how best to support my child’s big feelings.
Over the past 12 years, I’ve been designing routine, emotions and learning resources alongside my lovely mum - a Teaching and Emotional Literacy Support Assistant with over 24 years of experience. Together, we listen closely to what families and children actually need, and we create tools that are simple, visual, and made with purpose.
