Supporting your child’s learning at home can feel like an invisible full-time job sometimes, can't it?! From decoding tricky phonics to managing meltdowns over homework, I know my role as a mum sometimes carries a heavy mental load.

This is where mindfulness comes in. When you’re both dysregulated, no learning will happen. But when your child feels grounded — and when you can take a breath yourself — you create the conditions where learning becomes joyful again.
Visual mindfulness tools like:

can act as gentle reset buttons before or during learning time.
Pair a five-minute phonics activity with a calming visual cue, and you’ve not only supported their reading — you’ve taught them emotional regulation too!

Here are five tried-and-tested ways to ease the mental load and bring calm to your learning routine:

Start with a ritual – Light a candle, ring a bell, or choose a mindfulness card together to signal “learning time.”

Use multisensory methods – Blending sounds while hopping, clapping, or tracing letters with a finger on a sensory card.
